i love holiday weekends! especially memorial day weekend – it symbolizes the beginning of summer {yay!}.

this weekend we had a lot going on, but oh boy was it so.much.fun!

the best part of the weekend was that my beautiful cousin, megan, came to visit!

it’s been a while since megan has come to visit so we took full advantage of the city while she was here. on friday we went to little goat for dinner. little goat is one of our favorite places to eat. for those of you that haven’t been – go now! and while you’re at it head over to chef stephanie izard’s other restaurant, girl & the goat. not only are both of these restaurants fantastic, but chef stephanie is a great person. there’s a good chance you’ll catch a glimpse of her working the lines at both restaurants on any given day. not only is she hardworking, but also a very kind person. both of these restaurants are fantastic and trust me – go.eat.there.now.

although we were pretty full from dinner, we still had plenty of room for my favorite dessert shop {sweet mandy b’s}!

the next morning we woke up early to go out and support adam while he ran a 10 mile race. i was supposed to run the race as well, but thanks to a knee injury i had to sit this one out. we had a great time at the race and while we waited for adam to finish we met some very interesting people. it always amazes me the questions that strangers will ask. my favorite this weekend was {asking about gruber}, “how long will he live?”. i mean really! what is wrong with some people? gruber of course just loves all of the attention though. and once adam finished he was so excited to see him, he could hardly contain himself.

after the run we went to our usual post-race breakfast spot, batter and berries, which was followed by lots of shopping while adam went to a beer fest.

after megan left, we were exhausted, but wanted to have a date night since we hadn’t seen each other all week. it was a great night and it gave us a chance to talk about the week. adam and i really feel that open communication is the key to our relationship. this is why date nights are so important to us.

on sunday, it was time to be productive. adam and i spent most of sunday running errands and we even painted our front door. yes, i know, but i swear – we really did paint. the two people who swore after we had painted our entire first apartment {6 years ago} that we would never touch a paintbrush again, did indeed paint.our.front.door.

that night we felt like we really deserved another date night. we haven’t been to the movies since…well, it’s been too long to even remember when. i had read really good reviews for the place beyond the pines {ryan gosling + bradley cooper}. and while it was really well written and the acting was phenomenal – i wouldn’t recommend it for someone wanting something light and uplifting.

on our day off, we grabbed brunch and started getting ready for spain! oh, did i mention we are going to spain? yep, for 2.5 weeks we will be hanging out in 3 different spanish cities! we are so excited, but have so much to do before we leave {less than a week!}. in fact, i should probably get back to doing laundry and packing.
